How to build strong relationships in remote Tteams?

2 min read

Remote work offers a high degree of flexibility and, in many cases, supports productivity. At the same time, it reduces the number of spontaneous interactions that happen naturally in an office – over coffee, during a quick conversation or between meetings.

That is why building a sense of belonging now requires not only well-designed physical spaces, but also consciously created rituals and communication channels.

Sometimes the simplest solutions work best:

  1. An informal Slack channel – for memes, casual updates, photos and everyday conversations unrelated to current projects.
  2. A permanent Discord or Teams channel – as a digital equivalent of informal office conversations.
  3. Watching content or events together online – as an opportunity to talk and connect.
  4. Team games and e-sports – a digital equivalent of office table football, helping to build relationships outside the formal work environment.

Not every initiative will work for every team. The key is to create a space – physical or digital – where interaction does not always have to be connected to a task, deadline or meeting.

In hybrid and remote work models, organisational culture is no longer created solely in the office. Increasingly, it requires the conscious design of experiences, rituals and informal points of connection between employees.
